About PsyD in Clinical Psychology

The St. Louis PsyD program’s mission is rooted in our students’ success. We’re aiming to develop culturally-competent and socially-capable clinical psychologists with a foundation in biology, social sciences, human psychology, and how they are integrated into one another.

Our curriculum is informed by the biopsychosocial model to provide a guide for clinical services. In the heart of St. Louis, the PsyD program is training a new generation of mental health professionals prepared to take on real-world challenges in diverse clinical settings.

PsyD Courses: A Guide to Clinical Practice

Classes go beyond just tests and quizzes. It starts with a foundation in psychological theory and science, but behind each class is practice for real-world application of clinical skills. By year five, our students are prepared to take on the challenges of diverse patients and settings.

An Emphasis on Cultural Competency

With courses such as Racial, Ethnic & Cultural Diversity, and Social Basis of Behavior, the PsyD program emphasizes training culturally-competent mental health professionals. This way, our students can go on to serve communities in high demand for mental health professionals.

Apply Your Clinical Psychology Knowledge

As we emphasize clinical skills, internships are required to become a licensed psychologist. At PHSU, students must serve 3,000+ clinical hours to earn their degrees. Our team matches students with placements in the local area so they can finish their degrees.

Requirements for PsyD Admission

Each PsyD course lays a foundation of psychological theory and science but focuses on practicing clinical skills for the real world. Applicants to the PsyD in Clinical Psychology program should meet the following requirements:

  • Preferred 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university (Note: Applicants with master’s degrees in Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work, Counseling, or other mental health-related fields, are accepted, pending the other requirements.)
  • Minimum of 15 credits in psychology, including the following prerequisites
  • If you meet the requirements, learn more about the admissions process to join our PsyD in Clinical Psychology program.
